January 14, 2001 - Getting ready to leave Tucson. I fly to DFW today and to Brussels tommorrow, ariving Tuesday. I started this Europe page, which is just a text file right now. I will format it later. As for now, I got to finish packing, going crazy trying to get stuff done.
January 29, 2001 - Greetings from Salzburg. Well, I am in the process of uploading pictures now. Some can already be seen by clicking here. Yes, it is Yahoo, but until I get FTP and stuff going with my site from Salzburg, this will have to do. Plus, Yahoo is nice enough to allow me to restrict access and creates thumbnails for me, which is a huge help. I plan on uploading more photos now. Yahoo only allows 40 pictures per album, so right now, I have 2 albums. These pictures that I have up now were taken in Trier, the oldest city in Germany. In these pictures, you can see the Porta Nigra, the Roman wall built about , well, many years ago, in one, you can barely see Emporer Constantine's castle, (palace that is), the remains of teh Roman Baths, the Imperial Elect palace, the cathedral, and portions of the Market Square. I also think I have uploaded pictures from the Ampatheater. Oh, and the grape vines are used to make Resling Wine.
I will try to explain all that happened. Getting to Europe was a pain. First, I was suppose to be flying out of Tucson to DFW, changing planes to Abilene. Then flying out of DFW to Atlanta, and changing planes to Brussels. Well, when we first called American Airlines, they said I could just get off in DFW and not have to go to Abilene. When I checked in at the Airport, howerver, they said that because I had bought my ticket through Priceline, I could not do that. So, I was suppose to fly into Abilene that night, sleep at the airport, and buy the first ticket back to DFW teh next morning. Except, one problem, Abilene closes their airport at night. So, the fireman took me to the Piolot's lounge for the charter planes, and I stayed the night there. Got to the airport the next morning, and my credit card gets denied. Finally, I get my ticket, and get to DFW. Being an American Eagle flight, I then had to catch a bus to American Airlines Terminal A from the American Eagle Sub terminal. From Terminal A, I had to switch to the Delta Terminal, Terminal E, which means leaving Security, and then taking a tram for 20 minuets (hey, DFW is big). I finally check in, and sleep at the gate before catching my flight to Atlanta.
Okay, now for the flight from Atlanta to Brussels. I am so glad the guy next to me moved, so I could have both seats, because I had been flying American Airlines (more legroom throughout coach, so I guess this is a plug), and changing to Delta was misrable. 8 hours later, we finally land in Brussles (have I mentioned that I HATE flying to begin with?). Brussels airport is not well laid out for the first time traveler, no signs, you just start going and hope that you will finally end up where you are suppose to. And I did. I checked in, and finally met up with Salzburg College. So we go down to the bus, and start wondering 2what is going on, because we were suppose to leave at such and such time, and 2 hours later, still there. It turns out that the group who had flown in from New York had lost their luggage. They eventually found it, and we drove the 3 hours to Trier. In that time, we traveled through Belgum, Luxemburg, and Germany. Gosh, Europe is small compared to Texas. Anyways, Trier is a cute little city to get yourself oriented in. At the youth hostel, they had an Internet terminal. It ran off of Linux!
We also viosited Bonn, the formal capital of West Germany, and Köln, also known as Cologne. Pictures comming soon, and once I get the videos up, I will use those because I am shooting a video diary. In fact, I am looking into the possibility of selling it to MTV, because people who have seen what I have been doing says it reminds them of "The Real World". We also hit a few other cities wich I will talk about some other time. Pictures of us silly Americans waiting to use the Internet will be up tommorrow.
I am still waiting for Salzburg to sink in. I finally got Germany being a fairy tale like country with the greatest people in the workld, then you cross the boarder into Austria, and its major culture shock. I have been to Mozart's house, and to the hills. I went skiing this past weekend, and am really sore. Like I said, more about this is in the video when I get it up. I need to go, I am writting this from a Internet Cafe a few meters from my school, so this is costing quite a bit of money. Videos are coming as soon as my computer arrives, don't worry. PAge formating will also come soon, I do not like black text on a white background. Later!
One last thing, there is this HUGE singer here, Anton Aus Tirol. Probobly have not heard of him in the US, but he has a Website, and I HIGHLY reccommend checking it out. Goto www.anton-aus-tirol.com and click on the Anton Aus Tirol link. They even have the video on the website. I bought the single the other day, which has the Megamix and the English version on it. This guy is so awsome, that if I spent the time to write an entire paragraph on him, you can atleat go and check out the site.
February 05, 2001 - Okay, I now have up all of my pictures from Germany and Salzburg. I plan on adding descriptions to my pictures shortly. Also, be sure to check out Brian'S webpage, he is also a student at Salzburg College this semester and he has put up some of his pictures at www.klassic.freeservers.com. He has some nice pictures up. Also, I will write a good entry here soon now that things have calmed down some.
